Throw on headphones and zen out to some sparkling Mojave nig
Throw on headphones and zen out to some sparkling Mojave night sky stars and star trails timelapses. Shot at various locations surrounding Joshua Tree National Park, this night sky compilation uses a full moon to "paint" the foreground, giving the visuals a surreal psychedelic "daylight" feeling. Exposures were 20 seconds. Shot on Canon 6D. Lenses Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM Wide Angle Lens and Rokinon 12mm f2.8. Shot and Edited by Gavin Heffernan (www.GavinBHeffernan.com) Music: Homeward Angel by Moby. Courtesy: www.MobyGratis.com This project was shot as part of SKYGLOW (www.skyglowproject.com), an ongoing quest to explore the effects and dangers of urban light pollution in contrast with some of the most incredible dark sky areas in North America. This project is being produced by Gavin Heffernan and Harun Mehmedinovic in collaboration with International Dark-Sky Association (www.darksky.org), a non-profit fighting for the preservation of night skies around the globe. International Dark Sky Week is coming up too -- April 22-28th!

As the days shorten and the darkness progressively eats away
As the days shorten and the darkness progressively eats away the light, an amazing transformation happens in the northern hemisphere skies. A lot of astronomers and stargazers prefer summertime to look up at the stars, probably because conditions are better and the brightest part of our own galaxy, the milky way is more visible, even with the naked eye. Although fainter, the winter part of the milky way and the rest of the winter sky harbor countless unsuspected gems, if one knows how to find and capture them! ??

We have been observing Earth for 40 years now, in the last 2
We have been observing Earth for 40 years now, in the last 20 we have focus with intensity on the planet with new technologies and capabilities, and we have accumulated a mass of data that is now revealing a complex and ever-changing living planet. Space is vast; yet it is full of collisions; gas and dust electrotatically flock together, gravity takes over coalescing grains into rocks, rocks into boulders then asteroids colliding again and again, striking planets and each other. Stars collide creating monsters of light and energy even galaxies collide over millions of years, space is a rough place to be.
